When I first got a Mac I quickly found out that the normal file browser, finder, is somewhat lacking. By somewhat lacking I mean it is so crippled that I thought about switching back to Linux for this one application. I had got used to Thunar which is an extremely powerful file browser for Linux. Going from that power to the Finder in OS X is just painful.
I went on a search to find something else, there had to be something better. I soon came across Path Finder which did everything I wanted and a whole lot more. The problem with this application was the price, it’s not free. They do offer a free demo, but the full registration is $35. After two days of the demo I was hooked and had to buy the application.
This application makes finding anything a breeze and has options for system management as well. There is a process viewer and command line terminal built right in. These make for very easy system management. I do not use the terminal app all that often, but it does come in handy when you quickly need to do something.
One of the best features of Path Finder is the taskbar icon. Odds are I am using the incorrect name for this on a Mac, whatever you want to call it, the icons next to the clock. This provides an easy dropdown list of all of your applications. You can easily run any needed application from this list.
Path Finder is a little gem that any geek will enjoy.
