Ban on Lithium-Ion Batteries: What the Hell is the TSA Smoking?

The TSA is like a mall rent-a-cop, the power has gone to their head. All both of them are a security theater to make people feel better about a threat that is not there.

Hot on the tails of a new study by Harvard finding that the all of these precautions have not helped the TSA posted new restrictions on Lithium-Ion batteries. This is just like the restriction of liquids on planes; they are trying to put on a show for the general public. The problem is that instead of helping people feel safer it’s just pissing everyone off.

This organization is a joke and needs to be stopped before they restrict us to only flying naked and not allowing us to bring anything along. The rules that have been put in after 9/11 have only created a better vector of attack, airports. They have created longer lines at security checkpoints which would be an awful good place to attack. It would be mighty easy to attack the checkpoint; there are always tons of people around and it would be a major disaster for all airports. Traffic would have to be rerouted and would cause most flights to be canceled for that day.

Airplanes have never been a good attack vector anyway; you have to do a ton of work to be able to fly it into a destination. It is much easier to attack public utilities, such as water and power. If you are able to take these services down you will do much more damage than with a single plane.

As US residents we need to stand up and fight the TSA’s security theater. The best way to fight this battle is to let everyone know that it can be better. I would suggest to everyone to read Bruce Schneier’s book Beyond Fear. He does an amazing job at explaining the mess of security theater.
