I have been asked several times by people how many bookmarks/favorites I have in my browser. To answer this question I most often have to explain my reasoning. I do not bookmark anything unless I am working on a tutorial that requires a restart of the computer.
There was a point many years ago when I saved links to anything and everything I found useful. This turned into a huge mess of random junk, around two pages of links to random junk. As it turned out whenever I would try to find anything I visited in the past I would have to dig through my random bookmarks.
I finally just started to not want to look for anything that I saved so I started searching for them instead. This turned out to be much faster than trying to scroll through a list of bookmarks. Then after a reformat I just did not bring over any of my saved browser items. This turned into what I do today.
My bookmarking tool is Google. I remember certain keywords for a site that allows me to find them again. For example if I wanted to find the flash game called dicewars I would just simply google that keyword, dicewars. The first result is exactly what I was looking for.
Now for something more complex; I want to list all of the options available to the $_SERVER global variable in PHP. I know that the PHP manual on the php.net site is wonderful, but the search is quite lacking. Google on the other hand indexes the site quite well. I do a google search of site:php.net $_SERVER. This gives me all of the pages listing that variable on the php web site. It just so happens that the first result is exactly the one I was looking for.
People have often told me that my method is quite disorganized and slow. I have found that I can find most results faster than these people who have them bookmarked. Overtime I have learned out to spot keywords in a phrase that will give me the best results on a search engine, especially google.
