Picking a Mobile Phone

I’ve been in search of a new mobile phone for quite a while now. Being the geek that I am I had to get the best phone out on the market within a few specifications: not running Windows and not Sony. These rules almost immediately removed all popular phones in the US.

After all of the recent publicity one might think that the iPhone would be the ideal device to fit my needs. The problem I have with that device is that it has not had time to prove itself. As with almost all Apple products the version 1.0 is more of a beta grade than I want to work with. This is fine for someone with the patience to deal with a less than perfect device. I have no plans of buying anything from apple with the 1.0 tag on it. I am more than willing to beta test the device, but I am not about to spend over $600 to be a beta tester.

Another logical choice would be to go with BlackBerry. Research In Motion (RIM) has created some neat little devices that has many people addicted to them. Many people call them CrackBerries as you become addicted to them like one may become addicted to crack. Prior to doing this research I thought they were called CrackBerries as they were poorly constructed devices that broke all of the time. I do not remember how I came to that conclusion, it was probably do to the fact that when I hear the word crack I think of breakage prior to thinking of drug usage. This disposition left me looking for what else is out there.

At this point in my research I discovered the Howard Forums and I found myself reading reviews of phones by people who love technology as much as myself. While reading reviews of tons of devices I started to notice a pattern; a majority of these people list the Nokia N95 as their top device.

The Nokia N95 is a device that has everything: 5 megapixel camera, GPS, radio, audio and video player, and just about everything else one could think to cram into a smart phone. On top of having everything most reviewers loved most features on the phone. There are of course issues everyone complained about such as the battery life only lasting one day and the fact the MSRP being $750USD.

After all of the research I had made up my mind to spend the money for the Nokia N95. This device does everything I can think of doing and the features far outweigh the drawbacks. I am now the owner of a Nokia N95.
