When looking for a gaming on a laptop the price is going to start around $1500 and go up from there. You can game on any system, but depending on the games you will need an extremely power machine. If you want to play Crysis wonderfully you will need to spend about $4000.
The absolute best gaming laptop is probably Falcon Northwest. These systems are far from cheap, but if you are going to game this is going to be the best option. I’ve yet to hear a anything bad about this company, well besides the prices. If anyone wants to buy a system with no price limit, this is the machine for them. For most normal folks these are just too expensive. They are our dream machines.
The other popular gaming laptop is Alienware. I no longer trust this company as it was bought by Dell. Today the machines are mediocre in my opinion. These systems are now more name than quality.
For a standard laptop then just about any of the standard companies will do. Gateway, Dell, and HP are all pretty much the same anymore. The boxes (case) and labels look different, but the parts are pretty much the same. What you are buying more than anything is the support.
I’ve had two HP laptops die on me personally and will not buy another. I know many people who’ve had good luck with them, but I had the same issue on two different models. The power connector on the motherboard died and wouldn’t power the laptop. I replaced the motherboard on each of the laptops while it was under warranty and the same problem came back 6 months later.
I’ve recently been telling people to buy dells as they had decent support. Recently I’ve been having a few issues with them, mainly battery problems. Support for batteries is far from good. This is the case with any company.
With all of that said, the MacBook Pro was rated the best vista machine by PC World. You can fairly easily install bootcamp on a mac and install Windows (or Linux for that matter). My MacBook Pro is the best laptop I have ever owned hands down. I hate to sound like a commercial, but the thing just works.
The downside to the MacBook Pro for gaming is that it is running an older graphics card. For the gamer this will be an issue. There are external graphics cards you can purchase, but then you have to lug them around with you. It pretty much defeats the purpose of a laptop.
A laptop is a great choice that most people are choosing. If you want more computer for the dollar you will go with a desktop. You will get at least twice the power for the dollar in a desktop.
