Latest from Twitter: Changed my avatar. It is actually me, well more lens than me. However I still think it is the first time I've used an avatar that is me.

BashPodder Reloaded

In my attempt to keep up on podcasts I finally gave up with Miro and found a great shell script called BashPodder. This is a very simple script that keeps all of your podcasts up to date with very little effort. It was missing a few features that I wanted, so I updated the script and am now releasing it to the general public under the GPL. Continue Reading »

Firefox 3 Awesome Bar - Still a Piece of Junk

FirefoxAs I have talked about in the past, the URL/location bar in firefox 3 is just plain annoying. The latest beta build have had the option to disable the functionality by tweaking the about:config its not pretty, but it got the job done. Continue Reading »

Windows Shortcut Keys

Nothing really new in this video, but I found the end to be so funny it had to be shared.

If you used to be a fan of TechTV and have not seen Tekzilla then you are missing out. The show is the reincarnation of the ScreenSavers in a podcast format.

Disable URL Search in Location Bar of Firefox 3

Firefox 3 beta 2 was just released and to my dismay there is a new redesign of how the location bar (also known as URL bar and address Bar) works. Now when you start to type in a URL it will search for everything you’ve ever done that resembles the text you type in. For those of us who are constantly typing in URLs this is just annoying. Software I use

My top 10 softwareWhile listening to Windows Weekly a while back I heard about a neat web site that tracks what software you use and for how long called Wakoopa. You install a tiny piece of software and it tracks quite a bit of information about your software habits.

The only thing that kind of bugs me about this service is the privacy in it. They have complete control over all of the applications I use. In my opinion the benefits out weigh these concerns. Each person should think about these risks before installing any sort of software of this sort.

The list of my top ten used software is not surprising to me. This list pretty much sums up my daily usage of software. I’ve switched away from iTunes due to it being bloated. Other than that the list is very accurate in my software usage today.

Miro, The Ultimate Podcast Utility

In the search for an alternative for iTunes I came across Miro. This is not the first time I have came across this software, but it is the first time I’ve found it useful. Over a year ago I used this software when it was still called Democracy Player. At that point in time it was unstable and not worth the time. It is now much more stable and does a great job at managing online videos. Continue Reading »

Lighttpd Settings for Serendipity

An issue with lighttpd over apache is rewriting
URLs. Most web based scripts out there are designed for apache and
nothing else. If you want to run another web server then you have to
figure it out yourself, which can be a fun experience. Continue Reading »

iTunes, Better Known as iBloat

iTunes is a neat program, but it sucks at the same time. The only time I get the magical beach ball in OS X is when I am running iTunes.

The most common time to have iTunes freeze up is right after a video podcast has finished downloading. If you are watching a video in iTunes and another large download finishes iTunes freezes up. Quite often it will freeze up for up to a minute with the only thing on the screen is the wheel of death. On top of that whatever is playing in locks up, but the timer continues. You then have to scroll back in the video to find your place. Continue Reading »

Giving Gmail a Fighting Chance

I am a long time desktop email client advocate. I have been using Thunderbird since nearly the day it came out. I believe I started using it around version 0.3 which came out in late 2003. I could see the potential and it has grown into a great application. Continue Reading »

Firefox Market Share

Stats can be used to prove anything and that is why I hate them. Well, that and I tend to look at them way too much.

There have been many reports of the Firefox market share growth. Some places say it is in the 35% while others say the share much lower. While if one were to look at the stats for this site it would show that nearly 90% of the visitors are running Firefox. Continue Reading »
